VIVID EXPRESSION ACADEMY

reimagining dance training for a new generation

Meet the founder:
Corina Lucy Best

Hi, I’m Corina.

I’m a dance educator, creative leader, and unschooling (home educating) mama of two—and I created Vivid Expression Academy because I believe dance should help us become more of who we truly are, not less.

I’m here to create liberatory spaces where young dancers feel seen, celebrated, and free to express their voice—without pressure, perfection, or comparison.

My approach challenges traditional models. At VEA, we value expression over perfection, community over competition, and self-trust over external approval. It’s a place where dancers grow in body, mind, heart, and spirit—through fun, joy, creativity, and connection.

What Shaped My Work

So many life experiences and powerful influences have informed and shaped my approach.

With over 17 years in dance, youth work, and community organising, I’ve seen how easily young people can be taught to shrink. Yet, we’re all born with a unique energy signature—and it deserves to be seen, honoured, and expressed.

I was one of a tiny handful of people trained in depth by the pioneering street dance icon Shabba-Doo in Shway-Style—a dance approach that merges his original take on Punking/Whacking with authentic street dance philosophy. Carrying this lineage forward with heart and integrity is both an honour and a responsibility, and I weave these principles into everything we offer at VEA.

My unschooling home education journey also led me to co-found The Space To Be, a thriving child-led learning community in NW London and Hertfordshire. That experience has deeply informed the inclusive, student-centred ethos of Vivid Expression Academy.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood—and it helped me understand why many of the dance training spaces I was in, never quite fit. I spent years navigating hidden challenges like executive dysfunction and RSD in systems that weren’t built for neurodiverse dancers. VEA is my response to that. VEA reimagines dance training so every dancer—neurodiverse or not—can thrive.

Why I Created VEA

I saw too many young dancers lose their spark in rigid, comparison-based studios. I spoke to many parents whose kids were having negative experiences in dance and performance art schools. It is shocking to me, how many parents have a story to tell about these spaces letting their children down in a multitude of ways. I knew there needed to be an alternative.

So I created a space where kids could be fully, unapologetically themselves—where their whole being is welcome.

Here, we don’t polish children into perfection. We nurture their self-expression, artistry, and confidence from the inside out.

VEA is built on years of:

  • Dance and artistic training and education
  • Creation and delivery of community arts and mentoring projects
  • Experience as a home educating mother
  • My own ADHD journey
  • A bold, heart-centred vision for what dance can be.

We honour the whole dancer: body, mind, heart, and spirit. And we celebrate the beauty of every unique path.

If you are looking for something different, you've found it.

Welcome to Vivid Expression Academy.

I'm looking forward to creating magic with you.

With love,
Corina Lucy Best

What Parents Say About VEA

An amazing offering from a wonderful woman. If you're interested in dance as a creative outlet for self expression, you've found your dance coach. I have watched Corina teach E and other girls and boys. Its a joy to watch and I'm usually crying by the end of the class when I see the kids expressing themselves so confidently and joyfully. They put their own dances together based on their interpretation of the themes Corina presents. It's always fun and she is always intuitive to the kids needs, adapting the class to the people there. Everyone deserves a coach like this in their life. I cannot recommend her enough.
